Message From The Director

From an academic perspective, the Day 4 + 1 BA/MBA Program offers a unique blend of undergraduate and graduate education. The program allows students to take advantage of the compatibility of the respective missions and geographical proximity of Claremont McKenna College and the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University. CMC's emphasis on the liberal arts and applied economics blends well with the liberal arts approach to management education for which the Drucker School is well known. By combining the best of undergraduate education with state-of the-art management training, the Day 4 + 1 Program seeks to develop a new generation of outstanding business leaders.

The impetus behind the program is CMC alumnus, Robert Day, who articulated a vision for a more fluid approach to management education than the traditional route where students spend time in the workforce before returning to graduate school. Approximately one of every nine CMC alumni is a partner, CEO, owner, or president of an organization. A number of our alumni in such positions comment that they would like to have had an MBA, but the opportunity costs of leaving their advancing careers was too great to return to school. The 4 + 1 Program avoids this type of opportunity cost and reduces the amount of graduate tuition from two years to one year. An uninterrupted career path may be especially advantageous for those students with entrepreneurial interests, who need specific management, marketing, and financial skills to launch a new business, but do not want to interrupt the process by going back to school. The Day 4 + 1 Program provides an attractive alternative by which our graduates obtain a strong conceptual background and intellectual framework that they can apply to future challenges.

Many faculties at top business schools acknowledge that the MBA does not make managers of their graduates, but instead prepares them for the continuous learning required of effective and responsible leaders. As educators, the faculty of CMC and the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management are committed to ensuring that the program provides such preparation.

I encourage you to read more about the program's integrated curriculum, internships and placement assistance. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.
