|
Claremont McKenna College does not offer a major in speech, but it maintains an active intercollegiate debate program. The Debate Union is the largest college debating society in the nation and among the most successful. Students participate in intercollegiate competitive parliamentary or policy debates or noncompetitive campus and community debates and roundtable discussions. Students have won national championships in three different debate formats. The Debate Union attends more than 50 national and international debate tournaments and conferences annually. Students additionally participate in public debates, speaking exhibitions, educational outreach and demonstration programs, and public affairs roundtable discussions. A number of courses, which are often part of or related to a speech program are listed under other disciplines, such as government, philosophy (logic), and psychology.
