Applying to CMC

Components of the Application

  1. Common Application: These forms should be completed and postmarked by the appropriate deadline. A personal statement and additional analytical essay (topic indicated in the Common Application Supplement) must also be included.

  2. Common Application Supplement for Freshman Admission: Please submit online with your application.

  3. School Report: A letter of recommendation from your high school counselor.

  4. Transcript: An official transcript of your high school record to date.

  5. Mid-Year Report: Your school's college counselor should also complete this form, however, it should not be submitted until your seventh semester or tenth trimester grades are available.

  6. Two Teacher Evaluations: These forms should be completed and submitted by teachers who have instructed you in solid academic areas (English, mathematics, language, science or social sciences). Additional recommendations may be submitted if you wish.

  7. You must submit either SAT or ACT scores. Only official test reports from the appropriate testing agency will be accepted. If submitting the ACT, please also submit the ACT Writing Test. CMC considers your highest test results, no matter which test you take. For more information click here.

    • A NOTE ON SAT SCORE CHOICE: CMC considers your highest section scores across all SAT test dates that you submit. Only your highest section scores will be considered as part of the final admission decision. Each time you submit scores, CMC will update your record with any new high scores. CMC requires you to submit your scores each time you take the SAT. Sending your scores each time you take the SAT can benefit you by allowing CMC to consider you for all available enrollment-related opportunities.

  8. SAT Subject Tests are not required for admission to CMC. However, homeschooled students are required to submit scores from two subject tests. One must be from math and one of their choice.

  9. Interviews are an optional part of the admission process. Interviews may be conducted on campus or with an alumni interviewer. All homeschooled applicants are required to interview.

  10. Application Fee: Claremont McKenna requires a $60.00 processing fee to be submitted at the time of application. This fee can be paid on line via credit card at http://www.commonapp.org/ or by mailing a personal check to the admission office. Please clearly print the first and last name of the applicant on the check.

Application Check List

To assist you as you complete your CMC application, we have created a helpful check list. Download and print this check list, place it in a visible spot near your desk, and check things off as you finish them.
