Ms. Janet Monro Dreyer
Ms. Dreyer (B.A., M.A.) is a teacher of young children. Educated at Mount Holyoke
College and Claremont Graduate University in the fields of psychology, child
development, and children's literature, she began her teaching career in 1964
in the public schools in Connecticut. From there she moved to Illinois, where
for seven years she taught basic education to adults. In 1976, she moved to
Claremont and joined the teaching staff of the Mary B. Eyre Children's School
at the Claremont Colleges. At Mary B. Eyre she worked with three and four year
old children until 1983 when she developed and then taught the first primary
program in the history of the School. In 1984, she became the School's Director.
In 1997, when Claremont McKenna College assumed responsibility
for the Mary B. Eyre Children's School and its relocation as The
Children's School at Claremont McKenna College, Janet played a major
role in the the design and construction of the new school. Since
its opening in 1999, she has continued as both its elementary school
teacher and its Director. Currently she is also serving as the School's
liason with the newly formed Berger Institute for Work, Family,
and Children.
