Dean Walker

By Paul Novak '1986

In late 1981, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Emery Walker, CMC’s Dean of Admissions. He told me, “You have a chance to distinguish yourself at CMC; I interview a lot of potential students, and I can say this to only a very few of them.” His comment stuck with me, inspiring me to do whatever I could to fulfill his “direction.” Dean Walker was a gentleman, scholar, and all-around nice guy, and his words are with me to this day.

I am fortunate that Dean Walker was followed by a slew of other legends, people like Ward Elliott, Harold Rood, and Ross Eckert on the faculty side, and students like Elaine Rossi, Brian Pori, Jim Brock, and Suzanne Audiss. Some have moved on, and some we don’t maintain contact with, but the impressions these people make in 4 short years at CMC are with me for a lifetime.
