About The Campaign For Claremont McKenna
Campaign Initiatives: Facilities
Many of Claremont McKenna’s academic buildings, residence halls, and athletic facilities have reached capacity. To meet current needs and to prepare for gradual growth, we are building new facilities and renovating existing ones. For example:
- Kravis Center—Designed by renowned architect Rafael Viñoly, the Kravis Center will transform the west side of campus and become the College’s first signature building. The Center will provide a gateway for prospective students by housing the Office of Admission and Financial Aid as well as faculty offices, state-of-the-art classrooms, academic departments, and five research institutes. The project also includes a large glass-walled Living Room for the College.
- New and Improved Residences—Fall 2008 sees the opening of Claremont Hall, a new residence hall housing 109 students in three “neighborhoods” with courtyards between. Constructing another residence hall is under discussion. In addition, the College will renovate Auen and Fawcett Halls.
- Improved Athletic Facilities—The first stage of a plan for improved athletic facilities is the Biszantz Family Tennis Center, constructed south of Sixth Street to open in fall 2008 and named for lead donor Trustee Gary Biszantz ’56, his wife Betty, and his daughter Samantha ’08. The second stage is complete renovation and expansion of Ducey Gymnasium to create an essentially new facility to meet the usage and growth needs of our athletics program—encompassing recreation, fitness, intramurals, physical education, varsity athletics, and sports medicine. The third stage includes purchase of land east of Claremont Boulevard for improved fields for baseball, softball, soccer, and archery.
Claremont McKenna seeks $100 million for these important building and renovation projects.
