Office of the Dean of Students

September 2002

To New CMC Students,

Welcome to your world of new beginnings, doors to opportunities and new and lifelong friends. Your world and your views will change. You will explore, learn, debate, argue, compromise, profit, anguish, and enjoy. The skills and experiences that you will acquire and hone over these next few years will be instrumental in determining not only what you will do with your life, but how you will live your life. Success is said to be where preparation and opportunity meet.

Since you’re going to work well into your 70s and probably live to be at least 100, use these years ahead to prepare yourself for the good things to come. Don’t wait until your senior year to start thinking about and planning for what you want to do with your life. When you look back over your college years, how do you want to remember them? If you want to make the best of them and make them productive, GET INVOLVED. BE PROACTIVE. PLAN EARLY.

Want to Volunteer? Tutor? Work with the homeless? Find meaningful internships? Spend a summer working abroad? Attend graduate school? Attend law school? Apply for national awards or fellowships? Work on Wall Street? Join the Peace Corps? Teach? Work in D.C.?

If you’re interested in doing any of these, start planning for them now.

Want some help in getting started?

The Career Services Center is the place to start.

We’ll see you in the Center. We’ll work with you in workshops. We’ll meet with you individually. We’ll learn with you at employer and graduate and professional school presentations. We’ll help you with the process.

Come on in. Get to know the CSC and what it has to offer. Make it a regular stop on your journey through CMC.

We look forward to getting to know you.

WELCOME TO CMC!

Best Wishes,

Susanne Mahoney Filback
