The Student Activities Office is committed to helping students make the most of their education outside the classroom through active participation in the many opportunities that exist at Claremont McKenna College.
Our goal in the Student Activities Office is to serve as a resource for student organizations. The office advises student organizations, assists organizations in planning campus programs and helps students develop the skills required to run successful programs.
The Student Activities Office strives to provide exciting programming for CMC's diverse student body. Please stop by to share your ideas.
Event Planning
When planning an event, organizers should remember that a successful event means providing a safe event, too. As social hosts, you are responsible for organizing and managing events which promote the safety of your guests and minimize risk and potential liability to you and your organization.
Alcohol at Events
The laws of the State of California specify that people under the age of twenty-one may not consume, possess, or distribute alchohol. It is also unlawful for any person to sell, furnish, or give any alcoholic beverage to anyone under twenty-one. Minors who use false identification in order to obtain alcoholic beverages are guilty of a misdemeanor. In compliance with the State and local laws, Claremont McKennna College prohibits the illegal use of alcohol on college property. Hosts of events may be held liable by the college, the courts, or both, for policy violations.
The College recognizes two categories of events where alcohol may be present. They are:
- Common Area Party: Total attendance should not exceed 100 students and their guests.
- Multi-College Event: Expected attendance generally exceeds 300 and is limited to students registered at The Claremont Colleges and their invited guests.
Student-hosts, who accept responsibility for alcohol, management and clean-up for an event, must be CMC students and must be at least twenty-one years of age. Both sponsors (hosts) of the event must be present for the duration of the event and are responsible for enforcing college policies. Moreover, event sponsors are responsible for any damage or vandalism.
Event Registration forms may be obtained in the Student Activities Office, Heggblade Center.
An event is considered registered when an Event Registration Form has been completed and approved. Anyone planning an event on campus that is student-related should fill out an Event Registration Form and submmit it to the Director of Student Activities for approval. The event is then entered on the calendar.
Advertising
Event advertising must comply with the policy on posting, and publicity must be approved by the Director of Student Activities in Heggblade Center.
