Community Service Internships

Claremont McKenna College is well known for preparing students to become leaders in business, government, and the professions. The College also encourages a spirit of volunteerism and optimism in its students by teaching them that they can be leaders committed to helping address some of society's most pressing problems. They learn this role by becoming Community Service Interns.

Each summer, the Community Service Internship Program at CMC is different than programs at other colleges because CMC has a tradition of promoting business careers. This program ensures that students learn the values of corporate philanthropy and community collaboration now since they will become the business leaders of tomorrow and will be in positions to promote community service and fund-worthy projects. Community Service Interns leave the classroom and their books, roll up their sleeves, and work "in the trenches" with nonprofit organizations. When the interns return to campus after their volunteer work, they become role models for other students, expanding the positive impact of community service at the college and multiplying the good work that will be done by young people in the coming years.

Claremont McKenna College's Community Service Internship Program provides students with donor-funded stipends of $2,500 each. Stipends allow the students to support themselves while volunteering for a community service nonprofit organization of their choice. Donor-funded support is the necessary element that permits the students to commit themselves to work in the nonprofit sector where agencies generally cannot afford to pay them. This support gives students an opportunity for personal growth that might change their lives, add direction to their careers, and establish in them a lifetime commitment to leadership in helping address significant social issues.

We hope that you will consider becoming a partner with Claremont McKenna college through a one-time grant of $2,500 or a perpetual endowment fund of $50,000. Your support will enable a CMC student to devote the summer to helping society as a Community Service Intern.
