Government 105 "Organization of Health Care and Public Policy" was taught for the first time in the fall semester of 1998. The course will be offered again in the fall of 1999 with some additional policy foci and--as was the case before--augmented by a series of guest speakers in conjunction with a "Healthcare 20/20" theme with the Athenaeum.
Policy foci for fall of 1999 will include:
Analysis of the key players and tactics involved in the failure of the Clinton health care proposals of 1993
Policy problems posed by Medicare and Medicaid
Policy problems posed by the rise of managed care and HMOs
An overview of regulatory issues concerning increasingly popular alternative health care systems
Policy implications of increasing ethnic and class diversity as well as the growing numbers of Baby Boomers
