Description:
The Graphic Designer and Production Specialist will be responsible for producing Claremont McKenna College publications (print and online) and various marketing collateral materials from concept through design and production. Consults with coworkers, clients and printers/publishers to design, create and produce a variety of College publications, advertisements and marketing and collateral materials. Manage individual projects and maintain compliance with editorial and design guidelines. Provide graphic consultation, direction and assistance to internal and external clients and staff. Coordinate, create, execute and place advertisements in newspapers, magazines and online outlets.
The Graphic Designer and Production Specialist ensures that all of CMC’s marketing and messaging efforts are consistently at a professional level of quality and convey the College’s brand and visual identity. (S)he will work collaboratively to support a creative environment and foster innovative designs and be active in the entire interface development process from idealization to implementation. Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment under tight resources and schedules. This position reports to the Director of Creative Services.
Qualifications:
This position requires expert knowledge of Quark, Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator and Adobe programs; exceptional graphic design skills and the ability to rapidly master changing technologies with the expectation that training in new software and/or technologies will be provided. Must be able to work in Excel, Powerpoint and Word. Bachelor’s degree in design and/or graphics, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities required. Four to six years of design experience required. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to provide the required documentation for proof of insurability with the College’s insurance carrier. Final candidate must successfully complete a consumer background investigation. The regular hours for this position are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Hours may vary due to needs of the College or department.

Title: Postdoctoral Fellow/Project Manager

Claremont McKenna College invites applications for a project manager or postdoctoral fellow to work with Dr. Wei-Chin Hwang on various projects related to culture and mental health issues. The project that the candidate will primarily be working on is a clinical trial testing culturally adapting CBT versus standard CBT, a project funded by the National Institute of Health (NIMH). The part-time project manager will be based at a community mental health clinic in Los Angeles, CA (Asian Pacific Family Center in Rosemead) and also spend part of their time at Claremont McKenna College.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a master’s or doctorate degree in a mental health field, a strong research background, experience working in a research lab setting, and be proficient in running statistical analyses. In addition, the candidate must be able to speak, read, write, and translate in Mandarin and/or Cantonese. Because we are doing clinical-community research, the candidate must also have a vehicle and possess a valid U.S. driver’s license. This is a one-year position with the possibility of 2nd year extension depending on a variety of factors. Title: Director of Interactive Design and New Media Production

Description:
The Director of Interactive Design and New Media Production will be responsible for managing CMC’s presence on the College’s external web site and other online properties including social networking platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, iTunesU, etc. The director must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously. As a member of the CMC Web team, the director participates in strategic planning to improve the content, functionality, design, and architecture of the external Web site.
The director will work in close collaboration with the College’s Information Technology Services (ITS) group as the primary contact for CMC academic, programmatic and administrative departments regarding web design planning and content and material production including HTML e-mail messages, HTML newsletters, banner ads and related materials. This includes helping each area identify and deliver effective messages and helping coordinate the content and design of electronic materials.
The director will take a lead role in the creation and design of CMC’s new web site including micro sites and the development of functional specifications, documentation and low and high fidelity prototypes for implementation. The director will coordinate web related technical planning and feasibility with CMC’s ITS group. He or she will also manage the processes for creating video content and electronic marketing materials. In each of these areas, the director ensures that all of CMC’s web and electronic marketing and messaging efforts are consistently at a professional level of quality and convey the school’s brand and visual identity.
The director will have an understanding of both business and user goals in helping to define and refine web and online projects. He/she will participate in user studies to understand user behaviors and preferences and build, from this understanding, informed user interface solutions; work collaboratively to support a creative environment and foster innovative designs; and be active in the entire interface development process from idealization to implementation. Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment under tight resources and schedules.
This position requires an expert knowledge of Web development, exceptional graphic design skill and the ability to master rapidly changing technologies.
This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications; supervises student interns; and manages an annual budget for videotaping and editing.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Website Planning and Administration
1. Assist with strategic planning for the school’s Web site as well as external, but related, College sites (YouTube, Facebook, iTunes, etc.)
2. Help manage processes for gathering and implementing user input.
3. Suggest ways of improving the functionality of the Web site.
4. Monitor the site for content quality, links, brand messaging and compliance with the school’s graphic identity guidelines.
5. Make suggestions to business units concerning Web content and design.
6. Provide advice and support to developers concerning photo editing.
7. Identify and respond to Public Affairs staff training needs for the web.
8. Participate in Public Affairs hiring and procurement processes, and manage the Public Affairs Web Assistant and work study staff.
B. Web Design & Content Development
1. Help plan and create content for the school’s home page.
2. Design visual elements including banner ads, graphics and photographs, and with ITS, the production and manipulation of optimized images for the Web.
3. Develop and maintain the content for Public Affairs image galleries.
4. With ITS, assist in the design of custom layouts and highlights for area home pages.
5. Help business units develop distinctive messages for their websites.
6. Work with ITS to develop marketing materials for outreach including e-vites and HTML newsletters.
7. Prepare header and footer content for the school’s daily event displays.
8. Build and maintain CMC Visual Identity Guidelines for a variety of resources.
C. Video Production
1. Assist with strategic planning, proposals, and production of marketing videos to be supported by the Office of Public Affairs & Communications, including creation of marketing-related DVDs as requested.
2. Coordinate planning, production and post-production of videos for marketing purposes.
3. Purchase Public Affaris video recording equipment and editing software, in consultation with ITS.
4. Manage relevant video production budget.
5. Package marketing videos using Final Cut Pro.
6. Assist with strategic planning, proposals, and production of the school’s podcasts and Web casts on the Web.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Ideal candidate must have 8-10 years of experience; advanced knowledge of Web development, Web site administration, videotaping, editing, Web 2.0, and social networking sites. Must have demonstrated ability in graphic design and the ability to write and edit for the Web. Working knowledge of graphic image formats (GIF, TIF, JPEG, PNG and BMP) and their use as well as graphic design applications such as PhotoShop, Adobe ImageReady, Macromedia Fireworks, and Adobe Illustrator is required. Must be able to develop and enforce visual identity guidelines; provide assistance and guidance to faculty and staff at all levels of Web experience; and proactively communicate with faculty, staff and senior administration to ensure that project needs are being met. Must have knowledge of administrative requirements for enterprise web site and be available and approachable. Ability to listen patiently to the user’s description of the problem, probe with knowledgeable questions and document details is required. Must be able to understand and communicate resource limitations for various requests. Must be able to work collaboratively with colleagues; use discretion in setting expectations for faculty and staff; work under time constraints and competing requests for services; set priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities; understand an institutional Web mission and apply it to policies and work procedures; and plan and manage relevant budgets. Must be able to supervise students and intern staff and be able to communicate effective with video production companies.
