If you received a scholarship or fellowship during 2011 from a U.S. source (such as one of The Claremont Colleges), you should receive Form 1042-S from the institution that provided you that scholarship or fellowship. The deadline for institutions to send Form 1042-S to students/scholars is March 15. You should not file your taxes until you receive your 1042-S since you will need information on that form in order to complete your tax filing correctly.
-
Most international students must file form 8843, even if you did not earn any income during 2011. The Windstar Foreign Nationals Tax Resource can help you determine if you need to file form 8843 and will help you complete the form
