Citing Your Sources

When to Cite

  • Whenever you use data, statistics, or other factual information found in a source
  • Whenever you quote, word for word
  • Whenever you use another person's ideas, whether paraphrased, summarized, or otherwise
  • Whenever you use a source's distinctive structure, organization, or method
  • Whenever you mention any aspect of someone else's work - even as a passing remark

When you're in doubt as to whether to cite a source or not, cite!
