Misuse of Sources

A Common Mistake with Direct Quotations

To give context to a quote or otherwise add wording to it, you should place the added word(s) in brackets, [ ].  Be careful not to editorialize or make any new additions that skew the original meaning of the quote – you can write your own commentary in your main text.
