Sophmore Leadership Experience Each fall, incoming sophomores have an opportunity to apply and expand their leadership knowledge during a four-day experiential learning trip, the Sophomore Leadership Experience, held at a camp in the mountains above CMC. The trip includes large and small group activities designed to give students increased self-awareness, facilitate group bonding and develop leadership skills. The program includes a day spent on Low and High Ropes courses and is put on by the Kravis Leadership Institute with support from the Dean of Students Office. KLI will subsidize this program in its entirety. View the flyer for more detailed information regarding last year's Experience.
This year the program will run from August 26 to 29, 2009. An informational dinner and applications will be available soon. For further information, please contact the Jessica Briggs at (909) 607-4162.
Leadership Day: Power Your Future Kravis Leadership Institute sponsored its first Leadership Day on September 27, 2007, a day of events for students interested in the Leadership Sequence, the Kravis Leadership Institute, and leadership development opportunities. Leadership Day events included a reception, lunch and panel discussion at the Athenaeum featuring panelists Michael Grindon, president of Sony Television Pictures International and KLI Advisory Board Chair; and Jeffrey Klein, chairman of the board of 1105 Media Inc. and KLI board member, who discussed current leadership issues. Deloitte Consulting made an afternoon presentation to selected students. The day concluded with an Athenaeum reception, dinner and presentation by Professor Ron Heifetz, cofounder of the Center for Public Leadership.
Claremont Leadership Academy The Kravis Leadership Institute conducts the Leadership Academy program, an intense nine month educational program designed to more fully develop the leadership potential of local community leaders. The program has been conducted the last several years for the City of Claremont providing leadership training for city employees and Claremont Unified School District middle managers interested in assuming increased leadership responsibility in their respective organizations.
This program was developed by Professor Susan Murphy’s Spring 2003 Organizational Intervention class based on their training needs analysis. The training includes such diverse topics as Leadership Development Theory, Non-verbal Communications, Critical Thinking Skills, Persuasive Speaking and several outdoor exercise sessions.

Mentoring Psychology 103, Mentoring The Kravis Mentoring Program at Claremont McKenna College was developed by Susan E. Murphy, Ph.D., and is sponsored by the Kravis Leadership Institute. Through a partnership with El Roble Intermediate School in Claremont, the program brings together local seventh graders and college students who participate in group activities and individual mentoring relationships. College students in the program earn one full credit for this course that covers two semesters. Group activities include weekly after school meetings, occasional field trips outside the community, and community service projects in the local area. See further mentoring program information here.
Workshop: Multiple Intelligences for Leadership This workshop will show participants how multiple domains of intelligence play a part in effective leadership. Based on the latest research in this emerging area, and conducted by one of its leading scholars, participants will learn about definitions of multiple intelligences, how they are measured, and their applications to effective management and leadership. Drawing on a three-component model (verbal intelligence, emotional intelligence, social intelligence), Dr. Riggio presents what scholars actually know about how these important abilities affect leadership – separating the truth from the myths and hype. Aimed at educated, professional managers/leaders, this workshop will not only inform participants regarding multiple domains of intelligence, but participants will receive some basic indication of their emotional and social intelligence strengths via a short assessment. See further information on this workshop here.
