Welcome to Step Up 2010!

To insure a happy and complete experience, please read each of the following pages carefully. For you to have the optimal experience at our program, you will have to organize a bit before your departure. The time you spend reading this information and answering the enclosed surveys will be well spent and make your week at Step Up more enjoyable and productive.

From the time of your arrival on campus Saturday, June 19 at 3:00 pm until your departure from campus on Thursday, June 24 at 12:00pm, your week at Step Up will be extremely busy.

Off-campus activities will include:

  • An afternoon of outdoor leadership activities
  • A short wilderness walk
  • An afternoon of community service
 On-campus activities will include:
  • Daily classroom sessions focusing on leadership and management skills
  • A swap-shop where you will trade ideas with students from all over the country
  • A review of your personalized leadership profile
  • Evening entertainment, a BBQ, and an evening planned by the participants.

Because of our busy schedule, and the fact that we will be sharing the Claremont McKenna College campus with several other camps, it is important that you do not bring valuable items such as jewelry, video games, large amounts of cash, or music players (iPods).  The costs of all meals and activities at the camp will be covered by the Step Up to Leadership Program. You may want to bring some money to purchase souvenir items at the school bookstore or food at the on-campus snack bar.  You may also want to bring a camera to record your experience at Step Up.  In addition to items of value, we ask that you not bring the following items: weapons of any kind, cigarettes and smoking materials, and alcohol or drugs.  If any of these items are found, students will be sent home at their parent’s expense.

Kravis Leadership Institute and Claremont McKenna College are not responsible for items left behind by campers upon departure.  Use of cell phones is strictly prohibited except during designated free time

Participants will be housed in the Wohlford dormitory on the Claremont McKenna College campus. They will be assigned roommates and live in dorm rooms six to eight participants to a suite.  Suites will be segregated by gender. There will be two participants per room, and one to two chaperones will be living in each suite with them. Rooms will not have phones, but there are several payphones on campus that students may use, or their personal cell phones during their designated free time. If there is an emergency, parents may call (909) 621-8743, which is the main office for the Kravis Leadership Institute.  While at the program, students will not be allowed to leave campus without a chaperone.  Early departure from the Step Up camp will not be allowed except for extreme emergency.  Do not come if there is a chance that you have to leave before the last day’s closing session!
