From Your Smartphone

To use your smartphone to set up over-the-air synchronization with CMC Email, take these steps:

  1. From the Home screen on your smartphone, press Start and scroll to ActiveSync.

Note: You may see a screen with several messages. If you click on the link that says "If your company supports syncing directly with its Exchange Server you can set up your device to sync with it," you'll be led through a series of steps to sync your email with your Exchange Server. Otherwise, continue with the steps below.
  2. Select Menu > Add Server Source.
  3. In Server address, enter email.claremontmckenna.edu
  4. Select the check box next to This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection.
  5. Select Next.
  6. Enter your CMC network username, password, and MCKENNA as the domain name, and select Next.
  7. If you want your smartphone to save your password, so you won't have to enter it every time you want to check your mail, select Save password, which will put a checkmark in the checkbox.
  8. Select the check boxes for the types of information items that you want to synchronize with Exchange Server. If a box has a check in it and you don't want to synchronize that particular type of information, click the box to uncheck it.
  9. To change synchronization details (for example, how far back in time you want to synchronize - the last three days worth of email, or the last week, etc), select the type of information and click Settings.
  10. Select Finish.
  11. To change how often and when you want to synchronize (for example, as items arrive or during peak times), select Menu > Schedule.

** Due to the convergence of several cell phone networks, you may not be able to expect when you will be roaming on another carrier's network. By default, Windows Mobile 5/6 devices will NOT sychronize while roaming. To enable the device to sychronize while roaming, place a check box next to Use above settings when roaming.
  12. The first time ActiveSync attempts to synchronize with CMC email servers, the server security policy will come into effect requiring you to create a password that will lock your device after a certain period of inactivity. A window will popup prompting you to create a password. Change simple to strong. Change the timer to the shortest time possible in order to maximize the security of your device. Create a password with a minimum of 6 characters (a combination of alphanumeric, uppercase and lowercase).
  13. Click Done
