Biotechnology and the Medicine of the Future

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 1988 Each week seems to bring another headline concerning a breakthrough in biotechnology. On Thursday, September 29, the Joint Science Department and Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum host Dr. Leroy Hood of the California Institute of Technology whose topic, "Biotechnology and the Medicine of the Future," is sure to interest the entire academic community. Dr. Hood, who received his M.D. from Johns Hopkins Medical School and a PhD from CalTech, is a prominent figure in his field. The editor of five professional journals and director of the Cancer Center at CalTech, he has written more than 300 professional articles and co-authored four textbooks in such diverse areas as biochemistry, molecular biology, and immunology. Dr. Hood is also the recipient of prestigious honors, including the 1985 California Scientist of the Year and the 1987 Louis Pasteur Award for Medical Innovation.
