2009 Kravis Prize Recipient
Dr. Sakena Yacoobi Visits as Guest
Of President's Leaders Forum

Dr. Sakena Yacoobi, founder of the Afghan Institute of Learning and recipient of the fourth annual Henry R. Kravis Prize in Leadership, will visit campus on Friday, April 3 as a guest of the Claremont McKenna College President's Leaders Forum Program. Dr. Yacoobi will discuss "The History of the Afghan Institute of Learning" during a lunchtime presentation at the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum. Reservations for the luncheon are required in advance; the public portion of the program begins at noon, with free seating on a first-come basis.
Dr. Yacoobi received the 2009 Henry R. Kravis Prize in Leadership for her outstanding record providing an estimated 350,000 women and children with access to education and health care each year. The Kravis Prize carries a $250,000 award designated to the honoree's organization and recognizes extraordinary leadership in the nonprofit sector. Dr. Yacoobi has spent the last 28 years providing education, training, and healthcare services to women and children in Afghanistan and Pakistan. One of her enduring contributions is focusing attention on the issue and importance of girls' education in Afghanistan.

The President's Leaders Forum program brings individuals from various fields to the College so that CMC students may have the opportunity to meet and interact with leaders in fields ranging from investment banking to philanthropy and citizen advocacy.
