Ben Harper at Bridges for
Sold-out Benefit

Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals will perform a benefit concert on behalf of the 27th Annual Claremont Folk Festival at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 4 at Bridges Auditorium. Harper's sold-out performance is presented by the Folk Music Center of Claremont and SAGE Productions, and features special guest Tom Morello, who was ranked 26th in Rolling Stone magazine's list of "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."
Harper's seventh studio album, the double-disc Both Sides of the Gun released on March 20, offers the artist's signature mix of rock, soul, and folk music, while also venturing into new territory. "I was hoping I could come back to the root of my earlier records, the sparseness and intimacy," Harper says, "and also branch out further in a produced sound than ever before."
Harper says that what was most exciting about the sessions for this album was a newfound sense of "absolute fearlessnessjust diving into a song and ripping it wide open, with a lot of one-take vocals and guitar solos that are nasty, loose, raw, immediate."
Harper's evening performance precedes the 27th Annual Claremont Folk Festival, which will be held the following daySaturday, May 5at Sycamore School, 225 W. Eighth St. Student tickets for the festival are $10, $20 for general admission, and $50 for a family of four.
