Claremont McKenna College Ranked 9th Best National Liberal Arts College in 2012 U.S. News & World Report Rankings

U.S. News & World Report today released its 2012 edition of America's Best Colleges. Claremont McKenna College is ranked 9th overall among the nation's 266 liberal arts colleges surveyed. Within the rankings, CMC is 6th in Admission Selectivity; 4th in Graduation and Retention; and 8th in Faculty Resources. CMC's acceptance rate also was one of the lowest, at 17 percent. U.S. News also ranked national universities and liberal arts colleges based on high school guidance counselors' opinions. CMC was ranked fourth, alongside Middlebury, Pomona, Swarthmore, Vassar, Wellesley, and Williams colleges.

"We are pleased to see Claremont McKenna College recognized in this manner, both for its academic excellence and its commitment to graduating generation after generation of future leaders, both in the local community and across the globe," President Pamela Gann said. "While we recognize that the latest rankings help celebrate the great achievements of our faculty, students, and alumni, we know that the success of daily efforts to educate future leaders is independent of where we stand within a national rankings system."

Within the undergraduate schools at The Claremont Colleges, Pomona College ranked 4th, Harvey Mudd College ranked 18th, Scripps College ranked 29th, and Pitzer College ranked 42nd.

U.S. News & World Report measures peer perceptions, student selectivity attributes, graduation rate performance, and alumni giving among other areas. This ranking, along with others conducted throughout the year, is but one indicator of a college's quality and impact.

In other recent rankings news, CMC was ranked 4th on TrendTopper Media Buzz's Top 25 Colleges list for 2012. In fact, three of The Claremont Colleges were in the top 10, including Harvey Mudd (5th) and Pomona (6th). Claremont McKenna College was also among the top 10 colleges selected by The Princeton Review for its 2012 Financial Aid Honor Roll. The list includes institutions that received the highest possible financial aid rating score of 99.
