CMC Government Students Simulate Mid-East Negotiations

Simulated negotiations begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, among CMC student teams representing Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Syria, and the United States in an effort to craft a settlement to the long-running Middle Eastern conflict.

In a two-day negotiating session to be followed by a second weekend of talks Nov. 22 and 23 the four student teams will outline their official positions on the necessary steps to peace in the region, assessing the key diplomatic, military, economic and political issues and announcing their public goals. This will be followed with team meetings with their professor, Edward Haley, the W.M. Keck Professor of International Strategic Studies at CMC, to present goals for a comprehensive settlement.

A review and evaluation of the negotiating process will take place during normal class hours on Nov. 26.

This weekend's sessions are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on both Nov. 15 and 16, in the auditorium of the Keck Science Center, with the Nov. 22 and 23 sessions at 1:30 p.m. at Bauer Forum.
