Intelligent Talk: Claremont IQ

Two cameras, two great minds, and one great backdrop: the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum. That's where tapes rolled on Oct. 27, 2009 to catch an interview of Newsweek International editor, columnist, and CNN host Fareed Zakaria by CMC's own Minxin Pei, a specialist on China and U.S.-China relations.

In their easy discussion of challenging world issues and foreign relations, the pair zoom in on the growing, emerging markets of China and India—with Zakaria naming China the leader for several reasons, including the country's massive investment in education and its attention to border disputes.

Zakaria visited CMC as an honored guest of the Res Publica Speaker Series, which brings students and supporters of the College together with the world's leading authorities in public affairs.

Pei is the Tom and Margot Pritzker '72 Professor of Government and Roberts Fellow, and director of the Keck Center for International and Strategic Studies at CMC.
