Another Kind of Recall
About 80 Holocaust survivors were in attendance for the 90-minute program, says Roth, as was a smaller number of U.S. military veterans who helped to liberate concentration camps. Impressively, "a number of the Assembly members spoke eloquently and passionately about the importance of Holocaust commemoration," says Roth, calling their remarks "informed and on target." The event was coordinated by Assembly leaders Mike Feuer and Ira Ruskin. During his visit, Roth also met Assemblyman Chuck Devore '85, who was recently on CMC's campus to discuss his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in 2010, and also spoke with Sharon and Steve Wilson, the parents of newly-graduated CMCer Max Wilson '09. "All in all, it was a fine occasion—one that moved me," Roth says. "It's not every day that someone from CMC gets to address the Assembly from the speaker's podium." Read his full remarks. |

In spring, Professor Emeritus John Roth was invited by California Assemblyman Mike Feuer '80 to give the key address during the California State Assembly's annual Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom Hashoah) observance on April 27.
