The CMS men's and women's swim teams will be competing against nearly two dozen Division I, Division II, and Division III teams from around the country in the 2005 Speedo Cup Invitational, scheduled Nov. 17-19 at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, 4000 Olympic Plaza. The meet, hosted by the University of California, Irvine and sponsored by Speedo, is open to the public with an admission fee.
Charlie Griffiths, head swim coach of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps team, says the athletes are looking forward to the three-day competition the only championship-format prior to their Conference meet in February.
"Most of our meets are outdoors," he says, "but this is an indoor event at the historic Belmont Plaza pool, and it will give us valuable experience for future SCIAC and NCAA competitions."
