Debate Night: Round Two
Features Three Debates

The CMC Forum presents Debate Night at the Ath: Round Two on Tuesday, Nov. 17, a continuation of the Sept. 28 debate that asked the question: Is CMC a True Liberal Arts College? Round Two on Nov. 17 follows the same idea ("take campus issues and let passionate students duke it out," organizers say), but promises more topics, more speakers, and a modified format designed for "more entertaining and interesting debate." Also returning: a text-messaging screen that projects real-time texted reactions and comments from students in the audience.
The public portion of the event begins at 6:45 p.m., with free seating in the Athenaeum on a first-come basis.
According to organizers, Tuesday's lineup features three 20-minute debates, each starring two student debaters and one moderator from the faculty or administration. The first debate will consider the expansion of the College to 1,400 students, while the second debate switches focus to current campus life: Should CMC change its alcohol policy? The final debate of the evening turns to a question that students believe "often goes overlooked, but seems to merit consideration:" Is CMC male-dominated? For more information about each of the night's debate topics, visit the Fortnightly online.
A complete roster of debaters and moderators will be announced shortly. Updates can be found on the CMCForum.com Web site.
Sign ups for the event also may be made online.
