Doris Kearns Goodwin Will Be Commencement Speaker

Presidential historian and best-selling author Doris Kearns Goodwin will be the featured speaker at Claremont McKenna College's 51st Annual Commencement to be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 17, 1998.

The commencement ceremonies will take place on campus at Badgley Garden, near the intersection of Sixth Street and Amherst Street in Claremont.

More than 200 men and women from across the country and several international students will be recognized on commencement day as CMC awards bachelor of arts degrees to the Class of 1998.

Ms. Goodwin worked as an assistant to President Johnson during his last year in office and during the preparation for his memoirs. Ms. Goodwin has also been a consultant for documentaries on LBJ, the Kennedy family, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Ms. Goodwin is a leading public policy commentator as a panelist on "5 on 5", a television public affairs program and a frequent guest commentator on "Nightline" and "The News Hour with Jim Leher."

Her most recent book is the best selling Wait Till Next Year about her childhood and the Brooklyn Dodgers. She is perhaps best known for her presidential biographies, including the Pulitzer Prize winning No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front During World War II.

Claremont McKenna College is a highly selective independent liberal arts college educating leaders in business and public affairs. CMC enrolls nearly 1,000 students and is a member of the Claremont Colleges.
