Former U.S. Representative to the United Nations Jeane Kirkpatrick Featured Speaker at Res Publica Series

Dr. Jeane Kirkpatrick, United States representative to the United Nations under President Ronald Reagan is the next Res Publica speaker hosted by Claremont McKenna College on Tuesday, October 24 at the Westin South Coast Plaza. The title of her talk is "Year 2000: Global Issues."

Kirkpatrick has been called "a giant among the diplomats of the world." A scholar, political scientist and advocate for America's foreign policy, she is one of the modern era's experts on geopolitical issues. President Reagan appointed Kirkpatrick in 1981 as the first woman to serve as United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations. She has also served as a member of Reagan's Cabinet and National Security Council.

Kirkpatrick is the recipient of the nation's highest civilian honor, the Congressional Medal of Freedom. She is also the recipient of the French Prize Politique for political courage, two Distinguished Public Service Medals, and presidential medals from the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Israel.

Currently, she is Leavey Professor of Government at Georgetown University and is a regular contributor to newspapers and journals. Kirkpatrick is also senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and serves as co-director of Empower America.

A reception honoring Kirkpatrick begins at 11:45 a.m. followed by a luncheon and general remarks at 12:00 noon. This event will take place in the Lido Room of The Westin South Coast Plaza, 686 Anton Boulevard, Costa Mesa.
