In Memoriam: James G. Boswell II

James G. Boswell II, 86, died on Friday, April 3, 2009 at his home in Indian Wells, California.

For more than sixty years, the Boswell family and the James G. Boswell Foundation have supported the mission of Claremont McKenna College through the construction of Boswell Hall, the establishment of the James G. Boswell Professor of Economics and Legal Organization, and the James G. Boswell Professorship of Economics, as well as the support of residence hall renovation projects, including renovation of the North Quad dormitories.

Boswell was a graduate of the Thacher School in Ojai, California, and Stanford University. He also served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific. Known as J.G., he is credited with growing a family business founded by his father and his father's brothers in 1921, into the country's largest cotton producer.

He is survived by his son, James W. Boswell; his wife, Barbara Wallace Boswell, a Trustee of Claremont McKenna College; daughters Jody Hall and Lorraine Wilcox; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, April 22 at 1 p.m. at the Corcoran High School Memorial Stadium. Corcoran High School is located at 1520 Patterson Avenue, in Corcoran, California.
