Students heading into Collins Dining Hall at noon on Thursday, Oct. 11 must have wondered: So what's the deal?

Alongside the familiar cast of dining hall staff regulars were the smiling faces of employees representing the Dean of Students office, armed with tongs, spatulas, aprons, and paper hats. For an hour and a half, DOS staff helped slide pizza onto student plates, spoon up the hot entrees on exhibition, man the fryers and grills, and conduct ID checks at the doors. The inside joke? Said one employee, "The Dean of Students office is here on campus to serve students. So we're serving students."
