On Saturday, April 12, International Place celebrated
a silver anniversary with its 25th annual International Festival:
25 years of Bringing the World Together. The event welcomed
an estimated 4,000 students and local residents with foods from
around the world, live entertainment, and dance and music groups.
I-Place director Charlene Martin says more than
300 students and community volunteers worked on this year's event.
"And while not a fund-raiser, the festival actually turned
a profit this year, perhaps to be held over in a 'festival fund
for a rainy day,' she says. "We hope that the event brought
a glimpse of the world we hope for some day: diverse cultures and
nations coming together in peace."
Claremont McKenna College currently enrolls 726
international students from 84 different countries.

Food and craft booths representing such countries as Turkey, Ireland,
India, Bulgaria, Singapore, China, and Greece make the International
Festival a draw for both students and members of the local community.

A booth representing foods of Hong Kong (tea eggs,
chicken wings, and rice) was one of many exotic I-Place attractions.
