Believe Media recently wrapped the shooting of three Dell Computers commercials on CMC's campus, scheduled to air in July and August. The television spots will range from five to 60 seconds, and feature a hallway Slip 'n Slide and other rambunctious examples of notoriously collegiate activities.
The commercials, filmed June 8-12, utilized Auen, Boswell, and Marks residence halls. Location scout David McKinney says CMC was chosen for the shoot because "there aren't palm trees everywhere, and the campus looks like it could be anywhere in America." Other selling points, says McKinney, were the unique red, brick architecture and spacey dorm rooms. "The mid-century, kind of retro look is in vogue these days," he said. Several of the buildings around campus today were built in the years immediately following the College's founding in 1946.
Though the lush lawns are inviting for directors and producers looking for a departure from Los Angeles' urban landscape, Claremont McKenna College normally does not allow on-location shooting due to the number of conferences hosted on campus during the summer months. Because of current renovations in Collin's Dining Hall, however, a special arrangement was made with Believe Media for the filming.
Producers say the commercials will air over the summer, a time when many incoming students are looking to purchase computers for fall.
