Jose A. Campos '91 leads one of U.S.'s most important accounting bodies

Jose A. Campos ’91 was recently appointed by CA Gov. Edmund G. Brown, Jr. to serve as President of the California Board of Accountancy (CBA), a body regulating over 97,000 Certified Public Accountants and Public Accountants which, the largest group of licensed accounting professionals in the nation.

Campos, who is currently a partner at Deloitte and Touche LLP, was appointed to the CBA in December 2012 by Gov. Brown and served as Vice President prior to his election as President in November 2014. Campos graduated summa cum laude with a degree in economics-accounting from CMC and currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Robert Day School.

As a partner in the audit practice of Deloitte & Touche LLP, Campos has served large public clients including Health Net, Inc., a managed health care services company based in Woodland Hills, and leads Deloitte’s audit recruiting team’s efforts at Claremont McKenna College.

Passionate about matters affecting the Latino community, Campos has been a volunteer member of the Board of Directors of AltaMed Health Services Corporation for more than a decade, a nonprofit, federally-qualified health care center for the underserved in Los Angeles. His interests also focus on recruitment of underrepresented students to the public accounting profession, including outreach efforts to promote greater awareness of the profession and related opportunities.

Campos has served as vice president for the Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting. As a former Inroads intern with Kaiser Permanente, he also helps lead Deloitte’s participation in the Inroads internship program placing talented minority youth in business and industry while preparing them for corporate and community leadership.

Created by statute in 1901, the California Board of Accountancy's legal mandate is to regulate the accounting profession for the public interest by establishing and maintaining entry standards of qualification and conduct within the accounting profession, primarily through its authority to license
