NCAA Division III
Women's Tennis Singles

Kristin Lim '13 won the NCAA Division III Women's Singles title last Sunday, scoring 6-1, 6-3 over Kendra Higgins of the University of Chicago. This win marks the first individual title in Athenas' tennis history.
The championship match, played at Pomona-Pitzer's Pauley Tennis Complex, capped a tournament where Lim did not lose a set in five matches. The sophomore from Honolulu, HI beat Julia Browne (Tufts) 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals, Victoria Aiello (Middlebury) 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals, Jordan Wylie (Emory) 6-2, 6-3 in the second round and Kathryn Schmidt (Carleton) 6-4, 6-2 in the first round.
Lim also had a successful run in the Division III Doubles tournament with partner Crystal Lim '14. The pair won their first round match against Sam Frank/Megan Gaard (Gustavus Adolphus) 6-2, 6-2 and beat Shelci Bowman/Julia Browne (Tufts) 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals before losing to the eventual champions Jordan Brewer/Gabby Devlin (Amherst) 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals.
These are not the first accolades for the pair. At the NCAA Championships, Crystal was awarded the ITA National Rookie of the Year. Kristin won the Fall Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Small College Nationals in singles, and was named an ITA Scholar Athlete for having a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. Kristin and Crystal also placed second in the Fall ITA Small College Nationals in doubles.
She was also just nominated as a candidate for the 2010-11 Division III Athlete of the Year Honda Award, by the Board of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards.
On the Stags, Ronald Wu '11 and Zhenya Pereverzin '14 were the Men's Division III Doubles runner-ups after falling in the title match to Oscar Pena/Stephen Sullivan (Bowdoin). The pair won their semifinal match over Moritz Koenig/Wes Waterman (Amherst) 6-4, 6-3, won their quarterfinal match over Jacob Barnaby/Casey Blythe (Johns Hopkins) 7-6 (7), 6-2 and their first round match over Brantner Jones/Andy Peters (Middlebury) 6-2, 6-4.
Alex Lane '13 won his first round match in the Division III Singles tournament over Nicholas Garcia (Dubuque) 6-0, 6-1 and his second round match over Adam Cranford (Washington [MD]) 6-1, 6-1 before losing in the quarterfinals to Max Frey (Trinity [TX]) 6-4, 6-4.
The men's and women's teams both played Williams in the quarterfinals of the Division III Team tournament, held at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. Both teams fell to Williams Athenas 5-0 and Stags 5-4. The Williams women's team went on to win the team championship.
2011 marked the first year that the Division III Men's and Women's Tennis Championships were hosted at one site.
