Lisa Loeb, Duncan Sheik to Perform Acoustic Concert at Claremont McKenna College
Kicking off a three-day celebration of the inauguration of Pamela B. Gann as its fourth president, Claremont McKenna College will present a concert featuring singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb and special guest Duncan Sheik and his band.
The concert will be Thursday, October 21, 1999, at 8:00 pm on campus in Bridges Auditorium, 450 N. College Way in Claremont. Tickets are $18.00 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or on campus at Huntley Bookstore, 175 E. Eighth Street in Claremont.
First performing together when they were students at Brown University, Loeb and Sheik have continued to work together. Earlier this year, they performed in Cuba as part of the Music Bridges exchange program, appearing with Peter Buck, Stewart Copeland, Joan Osborne, Jimmy Buffett and the Indigo Girls. This fall, Loeb is touring to promote her newest album, “Firecracker.”
“CMC students are excited about the arrival of our new president,” said Jim Nauls, director of student activities, “so this event is their way of sharing in the celebration.” Closing out the first of three days of inaugural activities, the concert follows a Thursday morning 5K Walk/Run led by President Gann, a campus picnic, and a 4:00 pm address by Oscar Arias, former president of Costa Rica and 1987 Nobel Peace Laureate.
Other inaugural activities will include an inaugural symposium on innovation, leadership and tradition, set for Friday, October 22; followed by a dinner honoring the CMC faculty. Events scheduled for Saturday, October 23, include campus tours from 10 a.m. to noon; the inauguration ceremony set for 2:00 pm in Bridges Auditorium; and a post-inaugural reception at on campus at Badgley Garden.
Claremont McKenna is a highly selective independent liberal arts college educating leaders in business and public affairs. CMC enrolls 1,000 students and is a member of the Claremont Colleges.
