Mentoring Cafe Set for Jan. 20

The second annual Student Alumni Relations Council Mentoring Caf? Kickoff Dinner will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 20 at the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, featuring guest speaker Susan Murphy, associate professor of psychology, and associate director of the Kravis Leadership Institute.

The dinner provides the opportunity for current students to meet their CMC alumni mentors in person. About 300 are expected to attend the event, with interests in a variety of professional fields including counseling and teaching, the sciences, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Murphy, co-author with Professor Ellen Ensher of Loyola Marymount University of the forthcoming book, Power Mentoring: Lessons from the Top in Media, Technology and Politics, is expected to discuss the benefits of mentoring and being mentored.

Holly Duncan '92, associate director of alumni relations, says the Jan. 20 kickoff dinner will be the largest event yet. The Mentoring Caf? in an informal program enabling current students to network with a participating alumnus, and explore career interests while, in some cases, landing jobs or internships.
