Parents Weekend 2009

Parents Weekend at Claremont McKenna College will be held Saturday, Feb. 14 through Monday, Feb. 16, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. check-in on Saturday in Founders Room, Bauer North. Guests will have the opportunity to attend a number of on- and off-campus events throughout the day and weekend, including athletics matches, student debates, campus tours, and art exhibits at neighboring Claremont Colleges.
Families arriving early for the weekend on Friday, Feb. 13 also may choose from a number of events that day and evening, including an admission information session, dinner at Collins Dining Hall (from 5 to 7 p.m.) and a singing party for students, faculty, and staff at 8 p.m. at the Claremont home of Ward Elliott, the Burnet C. Wohlford Professor of American Political Institutions.
Parents Weekend is an opportunity for parents and family members to visit with their students and celebrate their accomplishments. The weekend also allows families to experience together life on campus, familiarize parents with the many resources available to their students, and provide a sense of intellectual life on campusincluding a chance to audit a number of CMC classes on Monday, Feb. 15. (A finalized list of those participating classrooms will be provided at registration.)
This year's speakers include Crocker Professor of Politics Jack Pitney, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Jeff Huang, Associate Dean of the Faculty Andy Busch, Executive Director of the Robert Day School Kerry Boyle, and representatives from career services and off-campus study. Detlef Bindert P'11 also will discuss, Dealing with the Financial Crisis: A Treasurer's Perspective. Other weekend activities include a scavenger hunt hosted by the Student Alumni Relations Council, a student/parent basketball game, and an archery demonstration.
