Rose Institute Fellow Appears on KCRW's Which Way, L.A.?

Rose Institute of State and Local Government Fellow Douglas Johnson has appeared on KCRW's Which Way, L.A.? twice in the past few weeks. Both times, host Warren Olney discusses with Johnson the California Cititzens Redistricting Commission. Every 10 years, after the census is finalized, new district boundaries are drawn for the Assembly, the Senate, and the Congress. In the past two elections, California voters have moved to take this power back by creating an independent citizens commission to draw new lines based on census data. On Nov. 18, Johnson discusses the just-named eight commission finalists. On Dec. 2, he is joined by Peter Yao, former member of the Claremont City Council and interim Commission chair, to discuss nonpartisan goals and political expectations of the Commission.

Listen to the Nov. 18 broadcast, And Then There Were Eight...California Redistricting Commission Finalists. (Johnson's comments begins about 20:05 into the segment.)

Listen to the Dec. 2 broadcast, Redrawing the Lines of California's Political Landscape. (Johnson's comments begins about 17:35 into the segment.)
