Spring Break in Kuwait:
Student-Faculty Delegation
Visits Kuwait University

While some CMC students traveled to tropical locales and sunny beaches over Spring Break, 20 students decided to try something different. Led by Lisa Cody, associate dean of the faculty and professor of history, and Bassam Frangieh, professor of Arabic, this student delegation visited Kuwait at the invitation of Kuwait University, who hosted and funded the trip. This unique program was coordinated by CMC's Center for Global Education.
The trip included a visit to Kuwait University classes and a meeting with the President and Dean of Students, as well as dinner at the home of HE Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al Sabah '78 P'10, deputy prime minister and foreign minister. U.S. Ambassador Deborah Jones met with the students at the U.S. Embassy, and provided a briefing on U.S.-Kuwaiti relations. In addition, the students visited museums and cultural organizations, and had the opportunity to participate in diwaniyas, traditional Kuwaiti gatherings for the purpose of intellectual exploration and discussion.
The students who participated in the trip had a truly unique experience, and gained a broader perspective on the Middle East and the issues facing this region. CMC will host a delegation of students and faculty from Kuwait University in January 2012.
Several students spoke about their trip and shared photographs of their experiences. Click here to view the program.
