Stags and Athenas Move
into NCAA Championships

Although they took different paths, the men's and women's soccer teams both achieved the same result on Saturday - winning the SCIAC Tournament. The Athenas beat Occidental 1-0 at home and the Stags won at Redlands 2-1. Each team earned the SCIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
The men will be playing at UC Santa Cruz at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14. If victorious on Saturday, the Stags will play the winner of the Chapman University/Whitworth University game on Sunday at Santa Cruz at 1 p.m.
The women will be playing UC Santa Cruz at 11 a.m., at home, on Pritzlaff Field. If the Athenas win, they will face off with the winner of the University of Puget Sound/Hardin-Simmons University game at 1 p.m. on Sunday. More about the team wins.

Following a hard-fought battle on the field, the Athenas defeated the Cal Lutheran Regals Thursday night, with a final score of 2-0. CMS came in as the No. 1 seed after winning the regular season SCIAC title.
Brittany Pineros '11 says although the team was "super excited" about last night's win, "we also know it is just the first stepin achievingthe high goals we've set for our team this year. One of our goals is to be competitive in the NCAA tournament andreach the final four.
"Last night proved we are ready to compete in a high-stakes setting," Pineros added. "That being said, we loved winning such a high intensity game, under the lights, with all of our fans cheering us on!"
CMS Head Women's Soccer Coach Keri Sanchez says she is happy for the team. "They have worked hard over this past year and are accomplishing the goals they had set for themselves." She says the main feeling after beating Cal Lu in the semi of the conference tournament was relief.
"We had been the first seed two years ago and were knocked out by Cal Lu," she recalls. "After the feeling of relief, is excitement to be advancing to the final and then, hopefully back to the NCAA tournament.
"Our team is strong top to bottom, so we can make subs and our level of play never drops," she adds. "I think we are developing good team chemistry both on and off the field. We have a great sense of playing for each other and what that means."
