Behavioral Economics Expert Dan Ariely

Dan Ariely, the James B. Duke Professor of Psychology and Behavioral Economics at Duke University, founding member of the Center for Advanced Hindsight, and a New York Times best-selling author, will visit CMC on Friday, March 4 to discuss, "The Upside of Irrationality." The event, open to all 5C's, is part of the Robert Day School Seminar Series and will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Pickford Auditorium.
Using behavioral economic principles as a starting point, Ariely will talk about how irrationalities affect our day-to-day behaviors, both in the workplace and in our personal lives.
Ariely earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Tel Aviv University, master's and doctorate degrees in cognitive psychology from the University of North Carolina, and a doctorate in business administration from Duke University. Before joining the faculty at Duke, he taught at MIT from 1998 to 2008.
He is the author of the New York Times best-sellers, Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces that Shape Our Decisions, and The Upside of Irrationality: The Unexpected Ways We Defy Logic at Work and at Home.
Ariely's research has been published in leading psychology, economics, and business journals, and he is a regular contributor to Marketplace. (Visit his Web site.)
