Daniel Mendelsohn on the power of myth

Why study the humanities? For award-winning author Daniel Mendelsohn (The Lost), the humanities are essential to “enhanc[ing] our sense of what it means to be a human being.” Mendelsohn visited CMC this semester as William F. Podlich Distinguished Fellow. During his three-week tenure, he has given classroom lectures about his work, the state of contemporary criticism, and the abiding lessons in the foundational stories of the Western canon.
