“When cows starve, people starve.” This simple truth was at the heart of a life-changing summer in Rwanda for Josh Mittler ’15. With financial support from CMC’s ISS program and the Center for Human Rights Leadership, Mittler accepted an immersive internship with ThinkImpact, whose bright, young scholars address social challenges with market-based solutions. In this case, Mittler and his peers were grappling with starvation. When cows don’t have enough to eat, they starve to death, which then leads to starving people. His task? To help develop a sustainable feed for cows that could be replicated long after his return to CMC. “Had it not been for this summer, I don’t think I would have found my passion,” he says.
