Parents Orientation Schedule 2010

A final schedule will be provided when parents arrive for Orientation in August.

Pick up your welcome packet containing name tags, updated schedule, and maps. W.O.A.! return times will be posted.

Option Student Check In and Move In
Story House

Students have the option to move-in on Wednesday rather than Thursday. Limited services will be available. Students must be present to sign for their room keys. Room keys will not be issued to parents—no exceptions. Arrangements to pick up keys will be made for W.O.A.! students returning after 8:00 p.m. Formal Orientation programs begin on Thursday, August 26.

1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Campus Tour
Founders Room, Bauer Center North

Meet in the Founders Room to see the sights with student tour guides. The tour will include residence halls, classrooms, computer labs, dining facilities, the Athenaeum, and athletic fields.

1:00 - 2:30 p.m.

Community Resource Fair
Founders Room, Bauer Center North

The community resource fair will include representatives from Claremont McKenna College and The Claremont University Consortium services and support organizations. Representatives from the Claremont Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to tell you about the Claremont Village.

1:30 - 2:30 p.m.

Parent Technology Information Session (also at 2:30 p.m.)
Mary Pickford Auditorium, Bauer Center South

Navigating through the Tech world may seem like a foreign language. Join Mike Malsed, assistant director for student technology services, for Tech talk in English! Geared for parents, this session will provide information about technology offered at CMC, including what parents should know about computing at CMC, student computing expectations, and what students need and will be able to do. There will be time for questions and answers. New Student ITS Guide.

2:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Join us for a complimentary breakfast and pick up your welcome packet containing name tags, updated schedule, and maps. Students must pick up their welcome packets at Phillips Hall Lawn near Collins Dining Hall.

9:15 - 10:30 a.m.

Parent Information Session: “Student Wellness” (Optional)
Mary Pickford Auditorium, Bauer Center South

A wide variety of physical and mental health services are offered at Claremont University Consortium for CMC students. This session will share information about services offered and how your student can get access to them. Monsour Counseling and Psychological Services will also lead a discussion on survival skills for parents, techniques for managing the college experience, and transitional issues facing your student.

Freshmen Student and Parent Lunch

Meet at your student's residence hall to attend lunch with other residence hall members and families. Lunch is complimentary; meal tickets are not required.

Parent Information Session: “CMC . . . Your Questions Answered” (Optional)
These small break-out sessions will provide a brief overview about campus and residential life, academia, and the Parent Network. Discussions will be led by a faculty member, senior administrator, resident assistant, and CMC parent. Room locations will be available on the final schedule at check in.

This reception is open to CMC alumni families. By invitation only.

Parents Welcome Dinner
Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum

Join us for an informal sit-down dinner at the Athenaeum and meet other parents from your area and learn from an Ath Fellow about the history and programs of the Athenaeum. Please note: all new CMC students will participate in dorm barbeques and will not attend the Athenaeum Dinner. Advance reservations are required.

Parent-Student Farewell
Time for families to say goodbye to students. Parents are strongly encouraged to leave at this time as mandatory sessions and orientation for students will begin.
