A jump-start to professional excellence in finance.
A compelling alternative to the traditional MBA.
This unique year of study is designed to provide a premier postgraduate education in financial economics that builds on a well defined set of undergraduate prerequisites. Students who complete the graduate program earn a Master of Finance degree and enter the workplace with a highly developed knowledge of advanced financial economics, including corporate finance, econometrics, asset pricing and investment management.
This program's unique design enables graduates to enter the workforce with a more robust skill set and allows one to focus solely on their burgeoning career without the worry of whether or not to return to school for an MBA.
The graduate component is also paired with a rich co-curricular program where graduate students attend special events on and off campus, take customized communication-focused workshops, and otherwise add to the skills and knowledge they get from the classroom.
Students accepted to the Master of Finance program are designated as Robert Day Scholars and are eligible for merit-based scholarship support. All graduate students also have access to the technology and databases provided by the Financial Economics Institute.
Prerequisites for the Graduate Program
Prior to matriculating into the Master of Finance program, students must complete courses in accounting, financial economics and organizational psychology. In addition to these courses, students entering the graduate program must have completed a full year of calculus and a course in econometrics. For additional information regarding prerequisites, visit the Prerequisites for the Graduate Program page.
Post-baccalaureate Program for Students Admitted to the Master's Program
To facilitate the admission process for the Master of Finance Program, Claremont McKenna College offers a post-baccalaureate program for students who have earned an undergraduate degree, have been provisionally admitted to the Master of Finance program, but who lack required prerequisites for the program. Students are admitted to the post-baccalaureate program for the specific purpose of fulfilling prerequisites for the Master of Finance program; post-baccalaureate students may attend CMC for up to one year prior to enrollment in the Master of Finance program. Students may not co-enroll in the post-baccalaureate program and the Master of Finance program.
