The Rose Institute and Redistricting ReformSince 1973, the Rose Institute has conducted research and public education outreach on redistricting reform. The Institute is playing a central role in California's current debate on this issue. The following summarizes our most recent work. Survey of Voter Opinions In November, 2005, the Institute conducted a survey of California voters' opinions on redistricting reform. The Press Release, Crosstabulation Report, and Detailed Results Report are available for download. Examples of Gerrymandered Districts now available In response to many recent media inquiries, we have created a library of most-gerrymandered districts in California. The "Hall of Shame" includes the current configuration (drawn in the 2001 redistricting of California) and the 1991 district in the same area. New Redistricting Website On October 11th, the Rose Institute launched a new website providing Frequently Asked Questions and Answers regarding Proposition 77. Testimony to the California State Senate In June, 2005, Institute Fellow Douglas Johnson testified before the California Senate Committee on Elections, Reapportionment and Constitutional Amendments. His testimony presented insights on SCA 3. Mr. Johnson's statement is available for download here.

In February, 2005, the Institute put out "Competitive Districts in California," a case study of the 1991 California redistricting.
