Chloe Martinez, Religious Studies Lecturer and Associate Director of Programming for the Center for Writing and Public Discourse, was awarded a 2026 National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellowship to support the translation of approximately sixty poems of Mirabai from the Braj Bhasa (a literary dialect of Hindi). Mirabai was a Hindu saintly figure from 16th-century North India whose poems are still widely read and sung as devotional songs in South Asia. Martinez’s work will result in a book, Blue Like My Beloved: poems of Mirabai (New Directions Press, 2026).
